Angelina Jolie’s recent decision to undergo a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer has dominated this week’s news. Although I truly respect Ms. Jolie’s courage and decision to have this procedure, I have read a couple of extremely interesting commentaries on the matter.
The first commentary, written by Dr. John McDougall, was posted on the Forks Over Knives website on May 16, 2013. I strongly encourage you to read Dr. McDougall’s commentary by clicking here.
The second commentary was posted by Ellen Jaffe Jones on May 15, 2013 on her website Veg Coach, as well as on You Tube. Ms. Jones is a well-respected motivational speaker, personal trainer, running coach, author and teacher of healthy cooking classes. 32 years ago, she considered having mastectomies to dodge a huge family history of cancer, but instead chose to change her diet and start running to defy her odds. Please watch this compelling video.
This is a very compelling video! Until they know exactly what causes cancer and how to cure it, it seems like people will do whatever they think might have any chance of working for them. But changing your diet to plant-based is something easy that everyone can do with none of the dangerous side effects. It seems crazy not to. The science backs it up so why don’t doctors recommend it?
Did you see the latest Kaiser Permanente recommendations? Things are moving forward, thank goodness, because they are recommending that doctors recommend plant-based diets to their patients.
