At Vegan American Princess, we get lots of questions about protein. Protein-packed drinks and smoothies really ensure that you’re getting enough protein in your diet, but only the highest quality protein powder will do. We use MCT Lean Vegan Protein Powders for our smoothies and we want to tell you why!
I love smoothies and I make them a few times a week—but I want to pack as much into them as I can and make them powerhouses! Protein is number one on my list of ingredients—maybe you use ordinary milk or yogurt, or whey powder or soy protein powder to give you that extra oomph of protein. I know you’re probably thinking, “Well, sure she’s vegan so she’s worried about getting enough protein.” That couldn’t be further from the truth—protein is never a worry for me because I really do eat a completely balanced, whole food plant-based diet as much as possible. And when you do that, you get enough protein! But, my smoothies have to be awesomely healthy.
You have got to try MCT Lean’s Vegan Blend Protein Powder! It comes in 2 flavors, Natural Cocoa and Natural Vanilla, and they are both delicious, packed with 20 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber and MCT’s (medium chain triglycerides). The vanilla tastes kind of like a vanilla cupcake and the cocoa like chocolate pudding—both great with no grittiness or after-taste. The MCT Lean people are so excited that we love their product, they are offering our readers 15% their order when they use the link—just use the coupon code mctvap15 on the MCT Lean website.

What MCT Lean Vegan Protein Powders DOES NOT HAVE is as important as what they do have:
- no gluten
- no wheat
- no dairy
- no lactose
- no soy
- no corn
- no yeast
- no fish or shellfish
- no peanuts
- no eggs
- no artificial colors, sweeteners or preservatives
This protein blend is derived from “a nutritionally dense, highly digestible pea-rice protein blend with an amino acid profile that enhances lean body mass.” I love that it dissolves completely and that there’s no chalky or unpleasant taste that I’ve found in other protein powders.
The MCT Lean website describes this wonderful product as follows:
Beyond providing clean, vegan protein, our blend contains:
- MCTs—boosts metabolism
- SGS™ broccoli seed extract—provides superior antioxidant support
- Aminogen®—maximizes protein digestion and absorption
Here are some of MCT Lean Vegan Protein Blend’s many benefits:
- Builds lean muscle and promotes lean body composition
- Reduces recovery time after workout
- Supports healthy blood sugar levels
- Supports immune health, cardiovascular health, and gastrointestinal health
- Enhances cell detoxification
But what are mct’s and why do we want to know? MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides… it’s a type of fat, but a completely different type than what is found in most American diets, which are long chain triglycerides.
Here comes the science lesson:
“All dietary fats are molecules made up of carbon atoms linked in chains. The main form of fat in the American diet, long chain triglycerides range from 12 to 18 carbons in length. Medium chain triglycerides, on the other hand, range from 6 to 10 carbons in length. The shorter chain length of medium chain triglycerides is said to impart unique properties that may enhance human health.”
“One unique property of medium chain triglycerides is that they are absorbed intact and delivered directly to the liver to be used for energy. Other types of dietary fats must be broken down in the intestines and made into a different type of fat to be transported in the blood before they can be used for energy.”
Dr. Oz loves MCT Oil as a fat-melter that can be put into your diet. He describes that long chain triglycerides, which is most of the fat that we eat as Americans, are stored in all the places in our bodies that we don’t want instead of burned. Watch this video from an episode on the Dr. Oz show….

- Weight Loss
- Sports Performance
- Brain Health & Alzheimer’s Disease
- Graceful Aging
- Immune System Support
I know we’ve been programmed to avoid fat and oil in our diets and there is much controversy regarding how much and what type, if any, are essential and beneficial to our health. I find that since I’ve been vegan, I definitely don’t ingest as much fat and oil as I did before. MCT Oil has less calories than olive or vegetable oil and “instead of landing in problem areas of your belly, hips, and thighs, MCT Oil does the opposite! It enhances thermogenesis, which revs up your metabolism and promotes fat burning.” The people at MCT Lean explain why MCT is the good oil:
Health Benefits of MCT OIL:
- Promotes weight loss, burns body fat, and preserves lean muscle
- Suppresses cravings and decreases appetite
- Increases energy and improves endurance
- Enhances athletic performance and reduces recovery time
- Improves absorption of vitamin E, magnesium, calcium, and amino acids
- Aids in brain cell maintenance, repair, and protection
- Helps protect against degenerative disease
- Supports immune system function and cardiovascular health
MCT Oil has no color or flavor so I’ve been adding it salad dressings and sauces instead of my other go-to oils. You can cook with it too, but only on low heat. It can be added to smoothies, of course. I feel that if I choose to use a bit of oil, let it be one that has enormous health benefits, burns fast and enhances my workouts!
