Our family’s college tour continues in the State of Florida. While looking at schools throughout the state, we opted to make Fort Lauderdale our home base. Seeking a casual meal, we discovered Pizza Fusion located at 1013 North Federal Highway.
Pizza Fusion is a franchise offering fresh, organic, natural and earth-friendly pastas, sandwiches, pizzas and beverages with locations in Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio and Saudi Arabia. Their motto is “Saving The Earth, One Pizza At A Time.” Pizza Fusion not only prides itself on its organic food, but boasts company-owned hybrid delivery vehicles and offers of health insurance to all employees who work more than 20 hours per week.
I was thrilled to discover Pizza Fusion during our stay in Fort Lauderdale, as it is a vegan-friendly restaurant and was voted by PETA as one of the “Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Pizzerias in the U.S.” My husband and I split a salad and an antipasto platter (minus the cheese) to start off our meal. They were both perfect!
We then chose to customize a pizza with a multi-grain crust. Half the pizza was the “Very Vegan” pizza from the menu, and the other half was a veganized “Farmer’s Market” pizza. You could customize any pizza on the menu to make it vegan which was pretty cool. You could also order your pizza with Daiya cheese instead of soy cheese, if you wish.
Our pizza was thin-crusted and delicious. As if that wasn’t enough, we had two amazing desserts: a fresh homemade gluten-free and vegan brownie and a chocolate hazelnut crostata (vegan!) made with Justin’s chocolate hazelnut spread, toasted walnuts, warm hazelnuts and powdered sugar…
Pizza Fusion was a great find and just perfect for our casual lunch. Let me add that our waitress was delightful and couldn’t do enough to please us!
Worth mentioning, is a great little tea bar and vegan-friendly restaurant I spotted in the same neighborhood as Pizza Fusion. I didn’t have time to stop and take photos, but I read about it online and it may be something you want to check out if you are in Fort Lauderdale. The name of the place is “Eat The Tea” located at 900 NE 20th Avenue. It looked like a cool, homey, eclectic little place which served teas, soups, salads and sandwiches. I read online that it is not only vegan-friendly, but that they have an awesome raw chocolate pie.
So, as you can see, you can always find places which accomodate vegans when you travel, even when you least expect it.
Stay tuned for my upcoming blog about the amazing Sublime Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale which deserves a separate post of its own!
