The “Frankenstorm”…It’s Nature’s Way Of Telling You Something’s Wrong

As I prepare for the “Frankenstorm” which is apparently heading my way, I cannot get the words of the song “Nature’s Way” by Spirit out of my head. It’s always been one of my favorites. Have a listen…

In my opinion, the song’s lyrics match the “hauntingly” beautiful melody so well. Although I have always loved this song, it has repeatedly popped into my head throughout recent years during some disturbing moments; more specifically, while I watched the seemingly endless news clips on television of the horrific hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis and other unfortunate acts of nature rocking our world. In my mind, these frequent and intense occurrences are nature’s way of responding to the environmental abuses we impose upon the planet. I believe that the longer we continue to travel on this path of destruction, the more we will experience the wrath of Mother Nature. I feel no differently about the impending “Frankenstorm” which has been described on the local news’ networks today as a storm which will be “the worst Long Island has ever seen.”

I cannot help but remember the crazy, frightening and unexpected hail storm which Long Islanders experienced in July 2011 causing $5,000 worth of damage to my family’s car. I recall being hit by pieces of hail the size of golf balls which I can only describe as “eerie.” A few weeks later, Long Island was rattled by an earthquake which measured approximately 5.0 on the Richter scale. Let me add that earthquakes have never been a regular part of Long Island’s history. And who could forget Hurricane Irene in August 2011 which left my home without power for three days? Now, we await the “Frankenstorm” requiring mandatory evacuations of people from their homes throughout coastal metropolitan areas and which is expected to leave Long Islanders without power for 7 to 10 days.

What frightens me the most about the hail storms, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. are not the actual occurrences; what truly frightens me is the cold shoulder given by many to the majority of scientists who opine that climate change is happening and that humans are most likely the cause of all or most of these changes. I have actually read articles indicating that 97% of American scientists believe that the Earth’s climate system is unequivocally warming and that humans are the cause, yet so many people treat this scientific opinion as some type of hogwash or words from witches. What will it take for people to see the light? What will it take for us to change our ways? And even if science is to be ignored, can people really turn a blind eye to Mother Nature’s repeated warnings to us? Why does it seem so clear to me that the increasing number of horrific natural occurrences is “nature’s way of telling us something’s wrong?”

On a lighter note, let me tell you how I have been preparing myself for Mother Nature’s next song to me…the “Frankenstorm.” First, I filled up my car’s tank with gas. I fully charged my cell phone. I did as many laundries as possible in anticipation of being without electricity and, therefore, unable to use my washing machine and dryer. I bought batteries for flashlights. I did not have to buy bottled water because my kitchen sink is equipped with a reverse osmosis water filtration system. I went to the supermarket and here is what I bought…

I also bought food for my cat which is not shown in the photo above. I already had juice boxes and small cartons of Vanilla Rice Milk in the house which are great for emergencies…

By the way, check out these new “Snack ‘n Go” variety packs from Lucy’s Cookies!

Tomorrow morning, I will go to Grace’s Marketplace, a local market and eatery, to buy more containers of Vigilant Eats Organic Superfood Oat-Based Cereal which I could not find at the supermarket today.

These cereal containers are great because they only require cold water to prepare. Great when you lose power! Lastly, I will take a nice hot shower and wash my hair because I may not have that luxury tomorrow.

Anyway, if you are one of the “lucky ones” who are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the “Frankenstorm,” I urge you to be cautious and safe as you ride the storm and “song” of Mother Nature.

Peace and Love,

Debby

    :~)

    • I’m first getting to a computer now. Had to drive to my husband’s office in Queens which still has power. We are ok but situation on Long Island not great, Trees falling on houses and no power expected for at least 7 to 10 days. Thanks for asking! We’re ok.

  2. We’re still out of power here in CT, but I hope you’re doing okay… Smart to stock up on pantry staples and such, looks like a great variety of edibles, too. I’m so grateful that we have a gas stove so that we can still make hot food, despite having no lights or heat. Stay strong, things will get better!

  3. We have GOT to be related! I have been completely revamping the way I eat for the past year or so, and taking Chinese supplements ! Although I’m not vegan, I’m eating 70% vegetables, and fruits,
pumpkin seeds to alkalanize, oganic chicken, no beef, no GMO’s, and only wild caught fish. It has helped tremendously! I have more energy, and both my husband and I lost weight! I found your site, because I was looking for the words to this song. I’m singing a telegram tonight for a man who manages a the Wild life resources in Ft. Collins Co. He’s an Ecologist. Some of my favorite snack items on this food journey, are those Rice Chips, Sosie’s greek yogurt with garlic, dill, and artichoke. Wonderful. when I want something sweet, I eat an orange, apple or other fruit. I am no Jewish American Princess, I’m a Jewish American Queen!
    love, Randi Sunshine

    • You are so cute!!!! I hope we are related. So glad you’re making the changes to your diet, and feeling more vibrant. I think you do have the vibrancy of a Jewish American Queen!!! How did your singing telegram go?
