I highly recommend Tula Kitchen located at 41 E. Main Street in Bayshore, New York for vegans and non-vegans alike who want a great meal in an intimate setting. I had a lovely dinner at Tula Kitchen this past Saturday night with my husband, Jeff, and our good friends Kathy and Chuck. Once again, I was the only vegan of the bunch although Jeff is “veg-friendly” and likes to try new vegan dishes. I would describe the restaurant as downtown-chic and very cozy and there are some outdoor tables, as well. The menu boasts healthy organic ingredients and the vegan dishes are clearly marked. Among the vegan dishes offered were a roasted edamame salad, sesame crusted tofu, tofu veggie crab cakes, a bean burger and a tempeh reuben sandwich. The cocktail menu was fabulous and there were many people hanging out at the bar, as well as dining in the restaurant.
For my appetizer, I ordered a green and yellow split pea soup which was vegan and gluten-free. It was great. As an entree, I ordered the “Seared Organic Seitan” with asparagus, roasted red peppers, a Thai peanut sauce and coconut basmati rice. My husband ordered the “Tempeh Teriyaki” with sesame broccoli and carrots over smashed sweet potatoes. For dessert, we split a chocolate peanut butter tofu cake which was delicious. My entree, the “Seared Organic Seitan”, was the standout of the night. Kathy and Chuck (who ordered seafood and chicken entrees) enjoyed their meals, as well, and expressed a desire to return to the restaurant.
Tula Kitchen is the perfect restaurant for a summer night and should definitely be visited by anyone who lives on the south shore of Long Island or by those who visit Fire Island in the summer since it is located very close to the Fire Island ferries!!!
